Amazon + Real Estate?
Amazon recently jumped into the real estate industry with a new partnership program called Turnkey. In a nutshell, you log into Amazon and use them to find a real estate agent. They’ve partnered with Realogy, which gathers a group of brokerages, and pairs you with a realtor. Then if you buy a home through the platform, you receive money back or discounts on Amazon products like smart home devices, or services like movers, home cleaners, or product installations.
Is there a catch? Well, the products and services offered are based off the home’s purchase price. But the biggest thing to note is that you can only use a Turnkey approved real estate agent. For now, this program is only available in select markets and Utah isn’t one of them, but we’re keeping our eyes on other markets where the program is live, in order to see how home buyers respond.
Amazon is a massive machine capable of driving millions of eyes to its services, so it will be interesting to see how Turnkey does and if/when it arrives in Utah. We always recommend finding a real estate agent that you personally feel confident with, so picking from their limited list might be an obstacle to pairing you with an agent who “gets” you. We believe full service agents—at least the good ones—are already providing great hookups to handymen and smart home devices, while also providing hyperlocal expertise, local and global marketing, and high touch customer service.
